Benkadi Blood

Digital transformation for stronger blood transfusion systems.

REF. DTA-2026 / 07
DOUALA — CAMEROON
The challenge

Blood supply management can be constrained by fragmented coordination, limited donor traceability and paper-based processes — reducing visibility and operational responsiveness.

—The DTA approach

Digital registration, workflow management, barcode traceability.

DTA developed an information management approach combining digital registration, workflow management and barcode-supported traceability, piloted in civilian and military hospital settings in Douala, Cameroon.

Demonstrated capabilities
  • 01Translation of a complex operational problem into a digital information-management solution.
  • 02Progressive digitalization of blood-bank workflows.
  • 03Donor registration and traceability.
  • 04Blood-unit tracking and operational visibility.
  • 05Integration of haemovigilance and governance mechanisms.
  • 06Training and stakeholder engagement.
  • 07Generation of data and evidence to inform future scale-up.
—Selected pilot results

At the Second Regional Military Hospital of Douala, the system progressed to a fully digital transfusion workflow. Implementation also advanced at the Gynecological, Obstetric and Pediatric Hospital of Douala, generating evidence and international visibility through presentations and publications.
